Oats
Also called Oatstraw, Milky oat tops
Oatstraw and milky oat tops — the stems and young seed heads of the oat plant, mild and nourishing in tea.
The oat plant gives two tea ingredients at different stages of its life.
Milky oat tops
The young seed heads, picked while they still release a milky liquid when squeezed. They are harvested over just a week or so each summer.
Oatstraw
The dried green stems and leaves, cut later in the season. Oatstraw has a gentle, grassy, slightly sweet taste.
In the cup
Both are mild, so they mix well with almost anything. Moon Time Brew uses oatstraw, and Howl at the Moon uses milky oat tops.
